When you add up the number of inquiries, you’ll know how much interest your product or service has.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Make sure you include the names of cities in your search terms if you are targeting a local or regional market. Advertisers participating in pay-for-performance programs are sometimes not permitted to use generic terms since their services are irrelevant to more global audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. What percentage of these inquiries are actually from your target market? Let’s assume you are a Los Angeles-based business with a Southern California target market. Based on the fact that 85% of all inquiries originate in the United States and 7.1% originate in Southern California, then 7.1% (8.1%) of all inquiries using any given keyword or keyword combination come from Southern California.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

You can calculate the percentage of inquiries in any market area by visiting the U.S. Census Bureau’s website. You can use those projections to estimate how many inquiries are likely to originate from your market area based on population projections.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. What is your likely market share? How many consumers who make inquiries about your market area are likely to visit your website, and how many will make a purchase? If your product or service is competitively priced and you are in a competitive market, 1% returns are reasonable. There is no question that a unique product will result in a higher percentage.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
5. If only 1% of your visitors take advantage of your offering, how many sales will it take you to recoup development and promotion costs? For argument’s sake, we’ll assume that it will cost $100 to reserve a domain name and secure a hosting account, $500 to design a 10-page site, and $100 a month for promotion. Can you estimate how many net sales you will need to recover these costs? To put it another way, how many sales would you have to make before you start making money?\u00a0<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
6.\u00a0Are you aware of who your online competitors are? To find out who appears on the first page of any search engine, enter a few keywords related to your industry. Check out a few. How would you describe their message? Do you see any strengths or weaknesses in them? Is their website something you like or dislike? Can you improve your offering to make it more appealing or enticing?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n
7. Are you competitive? Can you compete with your competitors regarding price, especially if you know what they offer? Most Internet inquiries come from individuals searching for a bargain, so they are generally price-sensitive. Is your competition providing pricing, or does it require visitors to make an online inquiry or call for a quote? In a service-oriented business, what will you do to compel visitors to act after visiting your website? Is there anything you can do to stand out from your online competition?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n
